100% Slide Hill Grenache Tablas A clone, 25% Whole Cluster.

Raised 28 months on the lees in French oak barrels, 35% new oak. Unfined and Unfiltered. 120 cases produced.

The 2018 Slide Hill Grenache is a powerful wine in the glass and on the palate. Aromatically bold with classic Grenache notes of caramelized red fruit, licorice, and herb de Provence. The palate is full bodied, and rich in depth with a bright red fruit core and dusty edges. The tannins are polished yet rugged giving way to a lengthy and powerful finish.

Winemaker Notes

The 2018 Slide Hill Grenache is quite the anomaly. Rarely do we see such a concentrated, rich and exotic expression of this grape. The 2018 growing season at Slide Hill was extended beyond the typical harvest date for this vineyard. While the Grenache slowly ripened late into the season the acid remained remarkably high and the pH unusually low. I decided to let it ride and allowed the grapes to hang on the vine well after others had harvested. The result is a powerful yet balanced wine, bright fresh raspberry and wild strawberry are complimented with a rich texture and notes of dark cacao. If you catch me at home fireside in the winter months there is a good chance an open bottle of this Grenache is nearby.

94 Points

The 2018 Grenache comes from a single vineyard, Slide Hill. Deep garnet-purple, it has a powerful nose of raspberry coulis, blackberry pie, and Chinese five spice with hints of dusty soil, wild sage, and a touch of balsamic. The full-bodied palate is firm and velvety, with a lively line and loads of spicy red berry layers, finishing long. This is a very different style of Grenache, at pH 3.5 with powerful fruit and full body.
