2019 Mélange Blanc

33% Viognier, 33% Marsanne, 17% Grenache Blanc, 17% Roussanne

Raised 22 months on the lees in French oak barrels, 30% new oak. Unfined and Unfiltered. 159 cases produced.

The 2019 Mélange Blanc is an intriguing and complex wine on the nose.  Fresh cut pineapple, melon, lemon curd, and chamomile greet you instantly while aromas of whipped cream, toasted hazelnut, and beeswax develop in the glass. The bright acidity in the mouth is balanced by a mouth-coating oily texture and a butterscotch richness that leads to a sustained and pleasing finish.

Winemaker Notes

This is such an exciting wine for me to make. The uniqueness of each of the four varieties in this Rhône white blend allow me to craft a wine with layer upon layer of complexity both on the nose and the palate. The Viognier contributes to the beautiful floral and tropical fruit aromatics, also offering a richness to the wine. Grenache Blanc provides the acid backbone and beautiful notes of white flowers and stone fruit. The weight and texture of our 2019 Mélange Blanc comes from the Marsanne and Roussanne and they provide the mouth coating texture, rich nuttiness, and creamy roundness that makes this wine so enjoyable to drink slowly and ponder. This is why I love Rhône white wines, complex, thought provoking and a pleasure to drink.

The 2019 Mélange Blanc is a blend of 33% Marsanne, 33% Viognier, 17% Grenache Blanc, and 17% Roussanne. The Marsanne comes from Slide Hill vineyard and the rest comes from Jack McGinley Vineyard in Happy Canyon. It offers up an understated note of allspice, beeswax, white pepper, and poached pears with hints of toasted almonds and lemongrass. The medium-bodied palate has lovely tension and a satiny texture, complementing the spiced pears and peachy flavors, finishing long and savory.
