Raised 22 months on the lees in French oak barrels, 35% new oak. Unfined and Unfiltered. 400 cases produced.

The 2018 Mélange Rouge is a wine of intense perfumed aromatics that leap from the glass. Blackberry compote, dark chocolate, kirsch liqueur and toasted vanilla seamlessly integrate with a savory character of cured meats, black pepper and iodine. The wine is beautifully textured on the palate with ample round and supple tannins that are balanced by mouth-watering acidity.

Reviews

95+ Points

Pale to medium garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Mélange Rouge has a profound nose of red and black cherries, violets, and dark chocolate with underlying licorice, Sichuan pepper, smoked meats, and tar. The medium to full-bodied palate is lively and vibrant - pop-rocks in your mouth - with lots of texture interest combining plush and chewy, and bright and lifted fruit leading to a peppery finish. The blend is 54% Syrah (from Slide Hill and Rancho Boa Vista vineyards, to blend warmer and cooler climate Syrah), 25% Grenache (from Slide Hill and Zaca Mesa vineyards, again for the warm and cool climate), 9% Graciano (Martian Ranch), 6% Petite Sirah (Tommy Town Thoroughbreds - Happy Canyon), and 6% Viognier (Jack McGinley). The wine was fermented with 40% whole clusters, mainly on the Syrah, and spent 21 months in barrel, 35% new.
