2021 Sta. Rita Hills Chardonnay

Raised 22 months on the lees in French oak barrels, 30% new oak. Unfined and Unfiltered. 255 cases produced.

The 2021 Sta. Rita Hills Chardonnay is a sophisticated wine of contrast and complexity. Notes of lychee, golden apple, and Meyer lemon are perfectly complimented with brioche, toasted coconut, and hazelnut on the nose. The Chardonnay is rich, concentrated, and texturally expansive in the mouth with a bright streak of acidity and a saline minerality that keeps the wine restrained and refined.

Winemaker Notes

One of my favorite aspects of wine making is getting to share the process with family and friends. I knew from the start that this Chardonnay was going to be a special wine and I couldn’t wait to share it. Early in 2022 when I began creating blends from different barrels, I asked a trusted friend to come in and try a few of the Chardonnay blends I had put together. There was an aha moment for both of us when we stuck our noses in the glass, realizing that this was the one, both of us commenting that it gave us chills. This doesn’t happen often for me, but this wine checks all the boxes of what I love about Chardonnay. Bright and energetic, yet rich and nutty with concentrated power and integrated oak that adds to the depth of character without pushing the beautiful tropical and citrus fruit to the side.

Reviews

97 Points

The 2021 Chardonnay, from Zotovich and Duvarita Vineyards, flies out of the glass with gorgeous notes of orange blossom, pink grapefruit, and white peaches plus hints of brioche, cashews, and candied ginger. The medium to full-bodied palate is satin textured and stacked with stone fruit and citrusy layers, finishing long and spicy. 255 cases were made.
