The 2021 Rancho Boa Vista Syrah is a wine of depth and complex character. Fig, plum and blueberry leap from the glass, as the wine opens notes of sweet teriyaki, peppered meats and hints of tobacco perfectly intermingle with the ample fruit. Ripe tannins, balancing acidity and full, rich mouthfeel bring this wine into perfect harmony.

Winemaker Notes
When I am doing blending trials to decide the composition of our Melange Rouge I am always looking for standout wines in barrel that need to shine on their own. In 2018 it was our Slide Hill Vineyard Grenache that needed the spotlight. The 2019 and 2020 vintages didn’t present a wine that needed to be the solo act, they all played well with the others. The 2021 Rancho Boa Vista Syrah not only needed the spotlight but certainly deserves it. After 28 months in the barrel, I decided it was time to get this incredible wine in the bottle and start sharing it. Sadly, there are only 70 cases…and I have a feeling it won’t be around for long.

The 2021 Syrah is deep garnet-purple colored. Classic notes of bacon fat, garrigue, juicy plums, and licorice all jump from the glass, leading to hints of tar and black pepper. The big, rich, full-bodied palate delivers a fantastically plush texture with great tension to counter the generous black fruit and spicy layers, finishing on a lingering anise note.
